Choosing a caravan site can be a tedious and long winded task. Finding the best place to take your touring caravan or place your static can take a long time. Many people go by experience, this is good, as long as you are not a newbie caravanner.

First things first, you need to decide on an area, are you going UK or Europe? Seaside or country? Established area or somewhere remote? Once you have this straight in your head it is easier to narrow down the sites available. If it is your first time, an established area and site with all the amenities would make sense to make your holiday as simple as possible.

In the main tourist areas you will be spoilt for choice, first of all consider what van you have. If it is a twin axle you will be limited, especially if it is a monster. Check with the site first that you will be accepted before you go. Choose from local attractions, site facilities, cost and what is available to you in the area.

Do your research

The internet has given us a wonderful tool to allow us to research from our own homes. There are hundreds of sites and more importantly forums where you can get real advice from non biased visitors and caravan enthusiasts. Ask some questions and talk to people who have stayed where you are going. These people will be able to help you find the right site and also help you with things to do when you are there and what to see.

Join a club

Joining a club seems to be the norm for caravan enthusiasts, you will get discounts on sites and other things that could help you with your journey or caravan ownership.

Remember to be insured

Obvious for us to say, but being insured when away is not just about your van and car, you need to think about travel insurance to cover yourself and your family for accidents and sickness, especially if traveling abroad.
