Most insurers have a minimum requirement for security procedures you must take to reduce the risk of theft or damage. This usually requires you to use a hitchlock and wheel clamp when the caravan is not being towed.
CaSSOA (Caravan Storage Site Owners' Association)
CaSSOA approved storage sites are accredited according to the security measures they have in place. Their facilities are designed to reduce the risk of theft.
The aims of CaSSOA are:
- To provide a register of secure storage sites.
- To assist site owners improve their facilities to stop caravan theft or vandalism.
- To maintain standards among approved sites, giving reassurance to caravan owners.
There are 3 levels of accreditation; Gold, Silver and Bronze. Each level attracts a different size discount on your caravan insurance premium.
Some discounts depend on the length of time your caravan is left in storage per year (i.e. a month when out of the country, over-wintering or constant except when in use) but it could be anywhere from 5-25%.
