hitch locks and wheel clamps

Wheelclamp and hitchlock

These are often basic compulsory security requirement to allow you to obtain insurance.

A hitchlock offers protection from opportunist theft and cause some delay to more professional or determined criminals. Only models that cover the hitch-head and the securing bolts are effective.

There are many versions on the market. The lock should not be exposed (to avoid attack by hacksaw or drill) and it should be designed to protect against the deflation of tires (so it doesn’t fit anymore).

The best and most universally accepted models are accredited Sold Secure, a division of the Master Locksmith Association..

Supermule

This is a physical anti-theft device for caravans and trailers that is fitted directly to the vehicle chassis. An angled leg is deployed under the caravan, like a steady or extra foot. If your caravan is towed away without unlocking the devise, it will be forced into the ground, stopping your caravan being dragged away.

The company that manufactured these has recently gone out of business. However, the final batches made are still available in reducing numbers. You may also have these already or buy a used caravan with the Supermule already fitted.

This will often qualify you for a discount of 2-10% of your annual insurance premium.

Suppliers

These physical devices such as wheel and hitch locks including many Sold Secure approved items will be available from your local caravan and camping shops.
