Yaxham caravan proposals split village
Plans to create a holiday lodge and caravan park in Yaxham have attracted controversy, the Eastern Daily Press (EDP) has reported.
A facility complete with 25 lodges, a touring caravan and tent park, cafe and shop has been proposed by THPD Properties, although local residents are split on whether the development would provide a boost to the community through the creation of jobs or prove detrimental by causing traffic and environmental issues.
Farmer Nick Anema is particularly opposed to the park, which would be built on the site of a former garden centre, on the grounds that a mooted sewage treatment plant could contaminate the drinking water of his cattle and a suggested surface water drainage system could affect his fields.
However, in a letter to the Dereham Times, a sister paper of the EDP, Timothy Hay, one of the partners that want to develop the land, denied the park will have a detrimental effect on the surrounding area.
"We have conducted all of the necessary surveys such as traffic survey, Environment Agency ecology report and all of the professionals are happy with our proposals," the letter states.
Caravanning holidays have become increasingly popular in the wake of the credit crunch as people cut back on foreign holidays, although it is important not to neglect caravan insurance.
