Vehicle crime is a steal in inner cities

Inner city postcode districts dominate a top ten list of car crime, an insurance company has found.

The top three locations are all within London, but Manchester, Liverpool and Edinburgh have all suffered during the last 18 months.

Sue Longthorn, managing director at Admiral, said: "We expect car crime to be higher in inner city areas, but it is surprising to see that 40 per cent of the top ten are in one city, even if it is London."

Admiral does offer some better news, however.

Ms Longthorn added: "Last year car crime claims fell by 5 per cent, and more importantly, have fallen by 34 per cent over the last five years, mainly due to improvements in security within the motoring industry."

The Home Office has advised drivers not to leave valuable items such as satellite navigation devices on show.

Vehicle crime is of particular concern to caravan owners who could have more to lose if they are targeted by thieves.
