Up with the lark? Go caravan spotting

Lancashire constabulary are asking early risers to turn detective, and to report sightings of caravans, and horse boxes, being towed - especially if the car registration number plate doesn't match the number plate on the van.

This follows a spate of overnight thefts which were prevented during 2007.

Detective Sergeant Simon Ingham, from Lancashire Constabulary's stolen vehicle squad, has told all the local Lancashire newspaper offices: "We really need caravan owners to be vigilant and consider the safe keeping of their caravans.

"Not only that, as this type of theft tends to happen in the early hours of the morning, I would urge people like milkmen to report any behaviour that they regard as suspicious . . . to get in touch with the police straight away."

Caravan owners should check the terms of their insurance policies before immobilising vehicles by removing wheels.ADNFCR-1193-ID-18458789-ADNFCR
