Trading Standards rules on East Riding static caravans
A two-year long consultation with owners and residents has ensured that terms and conditions for East Riding static home parks are now more transparent and fairer.
Trading Standards had received complaints that residents were given an arbitrary age limit for their homes to be removed from the sites no matter how well maintained and this effectively made them worthless, since they couldn't be re-sold.
Trading Standards had also been told that certain parks were demanding that owners could only buy certain types of homes effectively ensuring that the parks had to act as agents.
Councillor Jane Evison, portfolio holder for public protection at East Riding council, said: "The static caravan industry makes a vital contribution to the economy of the East Riding of Yorkshire and by working with trading standards the site owners have put their businesses onto a sound footing which will help to bring greater prosperity to the area in the future.
"Likewise caravan owners can rest assured that they are being treated fairly by caravan site owners."
Restrictive practices in the terms and conditions of the sites can affect the insurance premiums paid.
