Touring caravans most popular in UK
Recent figures from the National Caravan Council (NCC) have indicated that more touring caravans have been sold in the UK than anywhere else in Europe.
The statistics revealed that 33,000 caravans had been sold in Britain over the last year, nearly 50 per cent more than Germany, which came in second place. Britain's caravan sales numbers also beat France and the Netherlands, traditionally popular caravan bases.
Additionally, figures for static caravan sales have remained steady from 2006, while the number of registered motorhomes has increased from 10,849 to 11,069 since the previous year.
The director general of the NCC John Lally said: "Touring caravans remain a clear UK manufacturing success story and there is still plenty of potential for growth in the motorhome market.
"There is a huge focus on caravans in the media this year. Everything from the Caravan Club's centenary celebrations to Big Brother has highlighted the varied delights of caravan products," he added.
