'Rover' can come roving too
Caravan and motorhome owners may not be aware that it is possible to extend their travel insurance cover to include pet travel too.
Your pet will need to conform to any licensing that the country of destination require, as well as all countries you travel through, so a little paperwork, following a veterinary check but before you leave, could be necessary.
Allan Burns, head of Tesco pet insurance, says: "Overseas travel cover will help cover some quarantine costs, emergency expenses [up to a fixed amount] and the loss of your pet's passport.
"It's important to have your pets fully vaccinated, micro-chipped and to check the import requirements of your destination."
Contact your travel insurance provider for full details of cover and costs, but as a guide, it should add about £10 per month to the overall policy cost - far less than kennel fees.
