Retire to adventure
Up to 11 million over-50s have plans to travel abroad within the next five to ten years, a survey has found.
Over half want to travel more regularly and 22 per cent were planning a trip of a lifetime. Many wish to visit family and friends who live overseas, with one in 12 wanting to visit a "homeland", but thrill-seeking was also another factor seven per cent wanted to experience scuba diving.
Emma Walkley, current account manager for Alliance and Leicester's Premier 50 account, says: "The desire of the over 50s to see more of the world is clear this is not an age group which plans to sit back and enjoy a slower pace of life.
"Quite the opposite, in fact, with long haul destinations and a thirst for adventure firmly on the agenda."
Caravan and motor home owners may well find that specialist current accounts offer free worldwide travel insurance as a part of their benefits package.
