Recycle at home, rather than on holiday
Each local authority has adopted different methods of meeting their own recycling initiatives and so holiday makers, coming to an unfamiliar system, are being urged to recycle back at home.
This could be something as simple as removing the packaging from the "new" holiday purchases before departing, and saving on the weight being transported, and therefore CO2 emissions of the vehicle, as an added bonus.
David Weston, spokesperson for the Travel Foundation, said: "Taking off the packaging from goods before you leave home, rather than in the resort, is also beneficial because they are often without recycling facilities.
"Tips like this are small within themselves, but if everybody does them it adds up enormously with helping to reduce wastage and the carbon footprint of tourism in general".
Luckily, for caravan and motorhome owners, a good many UK sites do have clearly labelled disposal areas. European sites may also have recycling, and so before departing it may be worth looking at the dictionary to understand the signposts.
