People who go on caravan holidays are richer

Caravanners and campers are wealthier than the people who do not go on caravan and camping holidays, results from a new poll have shown.

According to new research from Barclays Personal Loans, the income of caravanners and campers tends to be higher than the national average.

While most people in the UK make £25,400 per year, caravanners have almost 30 per cent more, with an average income of £32,725.

Additionally, the three million active caravanners and campers in Britain are also generous with their money - they spent about an average of £382 each over the last year on equipment for their camping and caravan holidays, amounting to around £1 billion nationwide a year.

Barclay's managing director Gary Duggan said: "It is clear that camping and caravanning are experiencing something of a revival, despite the distinctly unfriendly camping weather we have experienced this summer!

"With holidaymakers shunning traditional package holidays in favour of more independent breaks and keen to support the UK tourist industry, camping or caravanning is a great alternative," he said.

Mr Duggan added: "Modern day caravans now come with all the mod cons and luxuries you would expect from a home on wheels and caravanners are happy to spend large sums of money on them as is evident from these statistics."

Previous figures from the Camping and Caravanning Club suggested that the camping and caravan industry contributed £2 billion a year to the economy. ADNFCR-1193-ID-18269629-ADNFCR
