Passat is Towcar of the Year 2007

A Volkswagen has been named Towcar of the Year by a panel of experts who claim it is the ideal vehicle to move your mobile home from A to B.

The Passat 2.0 TDI Sport 4Motion Estate has been labelled a "really special towcar" by judges of Practical Caravan magazine's Towcar Awards 2007.

Features of the £22,337 vehicle which impressed the judges were numerous, including the button handbreak, clutch power and four-wheel drive.

With the capability of towing a caravan weighing up to 2,000 kg, the Passat beat off 50 rivals including the Land Rover Discovery, Mitsubishi Shogun and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The judges were also impressed with the amount of space inside the vehicle, leaving it capable of providing extra storage for families heading off on holiday.

Carl Rodgerson, editor of Practical Caravan, said: "Choosing the right towcar is a tricky business as a car dealer is hardly going to pop a towball on the back so that you can go for a spin with your caravan or trailer.

"An excellent car doesn't automatically make a great towcar but you can be confident that the winners of the Towcar Awards are brilliant all-rounders that offer value, practicality and economy as well as superb towing ability."

This most recent honour is not the only one the Passat has received in 2007, having also been named Best Company Car for the second year running at the Fleet News Awards.
