New opportunities for caravanners to visit Guernsey
The beautiful channel islands of Guernsey are to allow tourists to bring their caravans, reports the Guernsey Press and Star.
The Guernsey Hospitality and Tourism group discussed possible traffic congestion and the suitability of some of the roads, but it was decided to allow touring caravans to travel to a designated site, using clearly marked maps, on dated permits.
Chris Sharp, chairman of the group, told the local newspaper: "I think they should be encouraged and they could easily be managed.
"They arrive at a set time on the ferry and can have a designated route to and from the site, which they will only travel twice during their stay."
Chris Elliott, director of marketing and tourism at the department of commerce and employment said Jersey had made a similar move in recent years, lifting restrictions on caravans with "very few problems".
Richard Madeley, co-host of the Channel 4 show Richard and Judy, visited Guernsey this summer after featuring an island resident on the show.
A trip set up by the Daily Express saw the television host hail the cuisine as "out of this world!".
