New Year resolve not to breakdown
Car breakdown services calculate that January 2nd is their busiest day of the year with two-thirds more calls than usual.
The Christmas revelries, unusual travel patterns combined with wintry driving conditions and not having time for the same home maintenance regime, all conspire to make the first day back at work the day which motorists experience difficulties.
"Motorists returning to work on January 2nd could face a difficult journey," says Andrew Beard, spokesperson for Britannia Rescue.
"To prevent New Year breakdowns drivers should not only ensure their car undergoes its usual checks and services but they should also take it for a short spin at least once over the festive period. In addition to January 2nd being the single worst day of the year it also marks the worst week of the whole year for breakdowns."
The meteorological office predicts that weather conditions will become cold and hazardous from Thursday January 3rd.
