Motorists should take 'reasonable care' to keep their insurance
Motorists are warned that their insurance company will not meet the cost of repairs if they were not exercising 'reasonable care' whilst driving.
Drivers can invalidate their policy conditions if they cause an accident while answering their mobile phone or eating and drinking at the wheel.
A spokeswoman for the Association of British Insurers (ABI) warns: "Using a phone while driving is not only illegal, but studies have shown, does significantly distract you."
She continues to point out how this could "impact upon claims made under your own policy in respect of the accident repair to your own vehicle.
"It could place you with major financial problems as you'd have to meet the cost of repairs or replacement yourself this could run into thousands or tens of thousands of pounds."
Caravan owners need to be especially aware of this, as an accident while towing their mobile home could land them with an especially large repair bill.
