Make sure your home away from home is covered
A leading price comparison website has urged anyone planning to head off on a caravanning holiday this summer to make sure their caravan is insured.
There are currently over one million Britons who take summer breaks in their caravans, a figure that could rise this year with the current economic downturn making overseas trips less affordable.
Now Confused.com has explained that while most caravans will be covered by standard car insurance policies, they will only be covered on a third-party basis while they are being towed.
Simon Lamble, product director for the website, said: "Caravanning holidays are an excellent option for people wanting a relatively hassle-free holiday with plenty of choice and flexibility.
"However, even laid-back holiday choices require some basic checks before setting off. Caravanners are advised to check with their insurers that they will be covered for any trips, especially if they will be spending a lot of time in a designated holiday camp."
Mr Lamble also urged holiday-makers to ensure that any personal belongings kept in caravans are covered for loss, damage or theft - some of which may need to be covered by a separate caravan insurance policy.
