Ireland's green measures taking effect
The Lonely Planet's latest guide book to Ireland highlights the steps which have been taken to make the country more eco-friendly.
The legislation which taxes the use of disposable plastic carrier bags, has reduced their use by 40 per cent and has prevented the previous 90 per cent wastage rate.
Fionn Davenport, the author of the guide, says: "Ireland's green natural landscapes are ideal for a host of outdoor activities such as diving, surfing and fishing."
The guide also says: "Ireland's comprehensive and efficient bus network makes it easy to avoid the use of a car, and the country is well suited to cycling and walking holidays."
Caravan and motorhome owners who wish to investigate further can benefit from the discounts which ferry companies offer, entitled 'landbridge'
