How green can your journey be
The National Caravan Council has launched a new website greencaravanning.co.uk.
The website helps users estimate their carbon emissions across their touring miles, by offering a table of choices of small, medium or large towing vehicle, and size of van, to illustrate the sort of pollution which their journey can generate. It also offers a comparison against other forms of the same journey by rail, sea or plane
The site explains: "This was calculated from data on the Vehicle Certification Agencys (VCA) website on CO2 emissions vs. fuel consumption a constant relationship as there is a given amount of carbon contained in each fuel type, typically 2.3kg and 2.6kg per litre of petrol and of diesel, respectively.
"The result is refined by dividing by the number of occupants to provide estimates of grams of CO2 per kilometre per passenger which can then be compared with other modes of transport."
The site also contains tips to help maximise fuel consumption, such as positioning bicycle carriers, or towing speeds.
