How caravanning appeals to all ages

The Caravan Club has found that the stereotype of caravanning being the sole preserve of older holidaymakers is out of date.

Almost one in five holidays are caravan or motorhome vacations, the Caravan Club has discovered, and the British Holiday and Home Parks Association (BH&HPA) has also found that nearly three in ten people spend overnight stays in a caravan.

Nikki Nichol, head of public relations for the Caravan Club, said: "There is a misconception that caravanning is suited to older travellers.

"With a million people in membership, there are people from all walks of life and all age groups. It's very popular with families and younger couples and people going off for the weekend with a surf board."

Asked if cost is the main influence, she continued: "It's the freedom and the community and the fact that you haven't got to wait for one or two weeks' holiday every year.

"As soon as you go 20 miles down the road, you're outside of the home and the chores that you have at the weekend."

Environmental concerns about the carbon footprint left by air travel are now attracting a whole new group of people keen to enjoy caravanning too.ADNFCR-1193-ID-18439070-ADNFCR
