Haven Holidays are reminding credit-crunched Brits that if they don't want to buy a second home in Europe - maybe because of the environmental effects of air fuel or because the cost of petrol or diesel has made a motoring holiday abroad too expensive - then a UK static home could be the answer.

With mortgage negotiations being quite complicated in the current market, static homes can be bought for far less than a flat or apartment and offer more space and a natural environment.

"We see it as a lifestyle option, a bit like joining an exclusive country club," say Haven.

"The facilities vary from park to park but typically include exclusive lounges and bars with many parks also having golf courses, fishing, tennis - even spas and health suites. Site fees and insurance are included as a part of the purchase package, although they would need to be considered for the future.

Caravan and motorhome owners may wish to check out the sites during this summer, possibly with a view to meeting up and spending time with families that have become separated by work commitments.
