Group turned caravan into 'drinking den'

Posted on October 23rd 2008

A gang of around 20 youths have been given summons after they spent three days dragging a caravan around North Shields in Tyneside, stopping to drink alcohol, it has been reported.

The group was aged between 14 and 35, although mainly made up of 14 to 18-year-olds, the Chronicle Live stated.

After picking up an abandoned caravan last week the group spent days drinking in it, often on public land and causing nervousness among some local residents.

Sergeant Frank Best, of North Tyneside area command, told the Chronicle Live: "They had got the caravan and were dragging it round the streets from place to place. It was basically being used as a mobile drinking den and creating a nuisance and problems for local residents.

"Aside from the anti-social behaviour aspect, there was also a safety issue to be considered with the gas bottle. Their behaviour generated a lot of complaints from members of the public."

Such an event may remind caravan owners to make sure their caravan insurance is fully comprehensive at all times.
