Fundraisers get walking for holiday caravan

A holiday caravan in Northamptonshire which provides free accommodation for terminally-ill children and their families will be boosted by a fundraising walk this weekend.

The caravan was set up earlier this year by Zach's Helping Hand, a Rushden-based charity which was established in memory of Zach Sanders, who died at the age of two in 2004 from a brain tumour.

The charity needs around £5,000 per year to keep it running, so walkers will be taking on a 15-mile trek from Little Billing to Rushden on Saturday (July 19th) to generate funds.

Zach's father Andy told the Northants Evening Telegraph: "We wanted to give families the chance to have a break together without them worrying about the cost of it, because often families have to cancel a holiday when a child is ill.

"We hope it will give them memories they can keep for a lifetime. The caravan is almost fully booked up to the end of the summer holidays. We're pleased families are using it, but obviously it's sad they are in that situation."

The project has also recently received a donation of £4,041 from the National Lottery's Awards for All.ADNFCR-1193-ID-18691556-ADNFCR
