Festival of lanterns attracts caravanners
The Camping and Caravanning Club celebrated their 86th Feast of Lanterns last week (August 30th to September 2nd) as thousands of caravanners and campers turned up to the Devon County Showground to see the goings on.
"Myths and Legends" was this year's theme, with a Mardi Gras-like parade. Some notable displays included a full-sized Trojan horse, a motorhome-like dragon that belched smoke along with fierce St Georges and leprechauns equipped with rainbows and pots of gold, according to website OutandAboutLive.co.uk.
The four-day event also included acrobatics feats, musical performances, marching bands and impressive displays from dog performers.
However, the highlight was the lighting up ceremony, where Camping and Caravanning Club members showed their artistic talents to put decorative displays on their caravans.
OutandAboutLive.co.uk noted that a particularly impressive one, with the theme of "Rock Legends", presented a lit up Elvis and ZZ Top, amongst others.
Next year's event is said to be held at the Pickering Showground in North Yorkshire, under the theme of "Christmas".
