Cyclists feeling squeezed
Cyclists' number one complaint about other road users is that they get too close.
Almost two thirds of cyclists said that passing motorists caused them to wobble, or throw them off balance.
One in five cyclists complained that, despite the Sustrans network of cycle paths, there were not enough cycle lanes to protect riders.
Half of the cyclists report feeling unsafe whilst cycling, and another half said that they felt that drivers did not see them clearly during wintry weather conditions.
Tony Doyle MBE, a former world and European track cyclist, says: "Cycling has never been more popular, with thousands of people ditching cars and public transport for the financial, environmental and health benefits that cycling affords.
"Whilst cyclists need to ensure they are as visible as possible on the roads, motorists need to look out for them and when they do spot them, ensure they give them as wide a berth as possible."
Caravan and Motorhome owners who carry bicycles on their vehicles to use once they have reached their destination are reminded to pack additional batteries for bicycle lights and high-visibility clothing to use when riding both on and off road.
