Credit crunch boost for caravan tourism industry
Posted on October 09th 2008
While the credit crunch might be playing havoc with the banking sector it could yet provide a boost to the caravan industry, it has been revealed.
Research conducted by Towergate Bakers shows the majority of British holidaymakers (65 per cent) will forego travelling abroad in favour of going on a cheap break in the UK as they attempt to tighten their purse strings in light of the global economic turmoil.
A greater number of people are therefore expected to go on cottage holidays, seaside town breaks and caravan and camping trips.
"Young parents often have nostalgic memories of their own childhood holidays and this combined with the economic downturn will create a boom in UK holidays in the year ahead," confirmed Paul Havenhand, marketing director at Towergate Bakers.
Unsurprisingly, it is the 'festival generation' of under-25s who are most likely to go on a camping holiday, while those aged 20 to 30 are most likely to go to a seaside town.
