Council opposes prospective caravan park fence

Plans to build a 20-metre square fence around the perimeter of a caravan park in Sussex have been opposed by the local parish council.
Coghurst Hall Holiday Park has put in a planning application to erect a fence around its main compound area, which lies on the edge of an area of woodland.
However, planning officers at Rother Council voiced their opposition to the proposal, and have been backed up by both Guestling Parish Council and the Forestry Commission.
According to Rother's planning chief Tim Hickling, the site on which the fence would be built is part of the woodland fringe and has, until now, remained undisturbed.
As such he believes construction would be an unnecessary intrusion into a natural habitat, prevent positive regeneration and spoil the woodland edge.
"This is an undesirable encroachment into the edge of preserved ancient woodland," he told the Sussex Express.
"The proposal would adversely affect the woodland area preventing the regeneration of trees and vegetation."
