Caravan touring site to become static caravan park

Moray Council has approved an application by Findhorn Sands Caravan Park to change its use from that of a touring site to a static site, the Forres Gazette has revealed.

This is despite the fact that members of the local community had objected to the proposal on the grounds that the adding of 30 new static caravans to the local area would be equivalent to the building of a new housing estate and therefore put an unbearable strain on roads and amenities.

Regardless, caravan owners should remember to secure adequate caravan insurance whether the caravan they will be staying in is a touring or static caravan.

Defending the decision to approve the plans, planning officer Maurice Booth told the Forres Gazette that Findhorn Caravan Park was referenced in the emerging local plan.

"Local plan policy is favourable towards holiday accommodation, and such accommodation would include static caravans, subject to the exclusion of residential usage," he commented.

"With the static caravans being proposed on a well defined part of the established and designated caravan park, and with the caravans being for tourist use, there is no objection to the proposals, subject to the standard conditions excluding residential use."

However, Elgin North councillor John Russell did lament the lack of touring caravan sites in the area.
