Caravan park fights wind turbine farm

Local residents have voiced their displeasure at plans to build a wind farm near their village of Coldingham in south-east Scotland, according to the Berwickshire News.

The Coldingham Stop the Turbine Action Group (Stag) has recently raised £800 to fly a blimp over the village, giving people a realistic idea of how large the turbines will be and how it might affect them.

In particular, Highview Caravan Park at Drone Hill is less than a kilometre from a turbine, resulting in protest from the residents of the static caravans there.

The site's co-owner Zulia Hassam said to the Berwickshire News: "These are permanent second homes. Some of our residents have been owners of these large static homes for nearly 20 years and many families are extremely worried about the effect that the 76 metre high wind turbines will have on their tranquil and scenic setting.

"Many of the homes...will have a direct view of the wind farm site. Even people who do not have direct views will have no escape from the sight when they use the site facilities...as these are all along the flat top of the site looking towards the proposed wind turbines."

A spokesperson for Coldingham Stag spoke to the same publication, saying: "It is important that when councillors consider this application they understand these are not touring caravans but something permanent."
