Posted on December 14th 2009
A driver has been sentenced to 27 months in jail after pleading guilty to handling stolen goods, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified. The incident involved Vincent Kerr driving a stolen Citroen van and a touring caravan with a combined value of £29,000.
Police were first suspect of the driver when they noticed that the number plates of both vehicles did not match up. In pursuit Mr Kerr failed to stop regardless of the polices efforts to box him in, this led to an increase of speed to 80mph, causing the driver to loose control adn jack-knife the caravan.
The court heard how Mr Kerr had been given a driving ban one month prior to this incident, they where told how he had recently become dependant on alcohol but on this occasion he was sober.
"It is a miracle that nobody was seriously hurt or even killed." said Judge Robert Bartfield, he continued: "Driving such as this can often result in multiple pile-ups. This was an extremely dangerous piece of driving."
