Caravan site residents suffer from the cold
Posted on January 18th 2010
Residents in Riverview Caravan Park have been suffering in the bad weather, as their caravans have been rendered useless by the frost and ice.
The recent cold snap has caused the water pipes to freeze leaving all the residents without water. No water means no heating, no showers and no water to drink, the only supply they have had is from five-gallon containers one of the residents has been bringing from town. With no water for heating the residents have either been forced to purchase gas canisters, which the owner of the site is selling at £15 above RRP and site laws say tenants can only use cylinders supplied by them. This and using electric heaters is simply too expensive for most of the residents meaning they are forced to live in sub-zero conditions.
One resident said: "My carpet in the bedroom is so frozen you could skate on it. I spend all my benefits trying to heat the caravan and there's still icicles on the roof inside."
It is the responsibility of the site owners and the landlords of the site to ensure that those residing in the caravans are given basic needs and supplies that are necessary during this weather.
