Campaign to save caravan site gathers speed
Holidaymakers from across the UK are pulling together to support a campaign led by local businesses to save a caravan park in East Lindsey.
East Lindsey District Council has announced that it intends to close the Jubilee Park site in order to make way for a new national standard croquet centre.
However, a petition has been launched to save the park, with visitors and businesses alike convinced that its closure would seriously affect the village economy.
One visitor, Susan Gill, told Horncastle News that she was "flabbergasted and disappointed" to hear about the plans.
She said: "Get it right and Jubilee Park could be a proper little gold mine."
The newspaper also reports that caravan enthusiast Annette Gration and her family stayed at the site last week and spent £250 between them at the surrounding shops and restaurants.
Furthermore, some holidaymakers who were unaware of the site's existence until recently are fighting to save it, having seen first-hand what it offers to businesses in the village.
Kate Weston, of Ashbourne in Derbyshire, added: "I notice that the site does not have its own website and I would not have been aware of its existence had it not been for a fellow camper bringing its sad demise to our attention."
