Calum's caravan becomes Calum's Cabin

A permanent cabin, which will provide children's hospice facilities for young cancer patients to enjoy a retreat, has taken a step further forward with the RBS International Award for fundraising being awarded to their employee Caroline Spiers.

Caroline is the mother of Calum, a twin who lost his own battle against a cancerous brain tumour last February, and his parents and sister have worked tirelessly to establish the holiday home in memory of their son.

The whole of the Bute community has joined in, with a local GP competing in a yacht race, and the Marquis of Bute donating land in Rothesay for the peppercorn rent of £1 per year to the charity.

Jenna Spiers, Calum's sister, told Scottish television station, stv: "It's keeping his memory alive so whenever you're doing something at Calum's Cabin you're thinking about Calum, so you just stay close to him."

Work should start this summer, with the first guests being able to use the cabin by 2009.ADNFCR-1193-ID-18484881-ADNFCR
