Brits in caravans help clock up 15bn miles
Roadtripping Britons collectively travel around 15 billion miles each year around the UK in holiday trips, according to new research.
Figures from Halifax estimate that around 17.5 million Britons have travelled 861 miles each over the last 12 months, amounting to enough miles to drive around the world 600,000 times.
Out of these 17.5 million, 300,000 people will have opted to travel by touring caravan on their holiday, totalling up to nearly 260 million miles.
Senior manager of pricing and underwriting for Halifax Travel Insurance, Paul Birkhead, said: "From Easy Rider to Road Trip, popular culture has glamorised heading out on the open road.
"Millions of Britons have been inspired to hit the highway and embrace the freedom provided by a holiday road trip."
Europe was identified as the favourite place to go for roadtripping abroad, while North America and Australia also proved popular.
It is important to ensure that you have caravan insurance when going on holiday to help protect your property.
