Britain's most northern caravan site to open next year
The northernmost caravan park will open in April after receiving a special grant.
A site capable of hosting six caravans is to be developed such outside the Gardiesfauld Youth Hostel, in Uyeasound, on the island of Unst after being awarded a total of £44,525 from HIE Shetland.
Trust secretary Alison Hunter explained: "There are a growing number of people visiting Shetland with caravans, and to have a dedicated area for them on Unst is going to be wonderful."
She added: "As a trust we are absolutely thrilled that we have been offered funding to go ahead with this. It's something we have been wanting to do for years, but could not figure out how to pay for it."
With a steady increase in tourist numbers on the island, the new park will offer a number of facilities including electricity hook-ups and water. It is also hoped that the site will provide continued employment for five workers as well as enabling visitors to sample the unique landscape of the island.
