Bird Flu restrictions easing
The Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has announced the lifting of the restrictions imposed during the H5N1 outbreak in Norfolk and Suffolk areas within East Anglia.
Full surveillance restrictions will be lifted a week before Christmas, but travelling in the region will be subject to less checks. Bird shows can restart just before the festive season too.
The Defra website says: "The lifting of the zones is dependent on there being no further cases of disease during this time.
"However, it is vital that all bird keepers in the UK, and especially those in existing disease restriction zones, continue to maintain good bio-security and be vigilant for any signs of disease.
"If you are concerned about the health of your birds you should seek advice from your veterinary surgeon."
This is good news for customers hoping to buy locally sourced turkeys, and other poultry, for December 25th and for caravan enthusiasts hoping to visit the affected areas.
