Being active could leave you out of pocket
Holidaymakers, who are tempted to try new activities whilst on holiday, could find that their travel insurance doesn't cover their medical expenses, in case of accident.
In some countries, medical costs can accumulate to cost about £20,000.
Graham Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Brokers Association, says: "We would say that travel insurance is as important as your suitcase.
"Many standard policies don't include hazardous sports, that will cost you more. When you are booking your holiday make sure you think about what you will want to do on your holiday and get a policy to cover you."
Mr Trudgill also advises very short-term policies. He continues: "Insurance for a weekend is not going to be much money at all: it will be a fraction of the cost of the holiday. We think around a quarter of people don't have travel insurance, which is a big, big worry."
Caravan and mobile home owners may be able to purchase annual multi-use policies in order to remain spontaneous.
