Award for forerunning caravan park

One of Britain's oldest caravan parks was formally recognised last week for its longstanding services to the industry.

The family-run park at Shoulthwaite Farm near Keswick was singled out for a special Caravan Club award because of its 52 years of service.

Workington MP Tony Cunningham presented the award to Jim Harrison and his wife Ruth, who took over running the farm from Jim's mother and father, Bob and Evelyn.

The Harrison family credit their ongoing success to the park's Lake District location, as well as their ability to cater for innovative advances in caravan technology.

And regular visitors insist they have also succeeded in espousing the famously warm Cumbrian hospitality which sees caravan enthusiasts returning to the site year after year.

Some 2,500 certified caravan locations currently service the mobile home industry, providing an invaluable boost British tourism and rural economies.

The Caravan Club - which celebrated its 100 year anniversary last month - visits each certified location annually to monitor standards and provide expert advice.
