Arson attack on two caravans near Taunton
Firefighters were called out near Taunton on Saturday evening (July 19th) to deal with a suspected arson attack involving two caravans, the Somerset County Gazette reports.
The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 22.15 alerting them to the incident, which took place at a site in between Creech St Michael and Langaller.
Although the initial report suggested that a car was on fire, crews arrived on the scene to find that two caravans and a transit van were ablaze.
With two fire engines from Taunton in tow, the firefighters tackled the flames with compressed air foam as they attempted to gain control.
After the blaze was finally put out, teams assessing the vehicles confirmed that all three sustained 80 per cent fire damage.
A spokesman for the fire service confirmed: "The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate."
The increasing regularity of such attacks on caravans highlights the need to hold a detailed insurance policy to protect against an expensive disaster.
