American innovation in mobile homes
Michael Berk, an American professor of architecture, has designed a green mobile home that makes use of natural daylight, encourages energy efficient appliances, can be connected to solar voltaic panels and is better insulated than other designs.
Originally designed as a shelter for emergency disaster relief under the name GreenMobile, he now hopes to provide more permanent options called EcoCottages.
GreenMobile has been awarded a $5.8 million grant as part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Alternative Housing Pilot Program and the professor hopes to work with industry to develop quick build and trailer drawn versions.
