Accessibility problems at caravan park
A caravan park in Somerset is the centre of a dispute over access and potential fire hazards.
The Somerset County Gazette reports that Alan Troman is unable to enjoy his usual stay at Haven's Doniford Bay park because of concerns over an access ramp to his caravan.
Mr Troman has been holidaying at the site for the past 18 years but now the park's managers are insisting that a current wooden ramp be replaced with a special U-PVC design in order to limit potential fire risks.
However, Mr Troman's son, Stuart, explained that the cost could prove too much.
"The plastic ramp would cost about £2,500 and we simply cannot afford it. That's why we were refurbishing the old one," explained Stuart Troman.
He added: "My dad is so upset he is just telling us to sell it now. I don't think they would be too unhappy to get rid of him."
However, park manager Rob Jenkins insists that the ramp needs to meet current health and safety guidelines.
"People's safety is more important than anything else and we want to make sure all objects around the caravans are as safe as possible," stressed Mr Jenkins.
